June 2024: In June 2024, the board of Sciences Po Strasbourg (Institut d'études politiques de Strasbourg) voted 12-7, with 2 abstentions, to suspend its academic exchange partnership with Israel's Reichman University, citing the Israeli institution's stance on the Gaza war.
The active involvement of this university in a conflict that is leading to the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians, women and children, is in contradiction with the humanist values that Sciences Po Strasbourg claims to uphold.

Context and response
The suspension was reversed by a 14-1-4 board vote on December 18, 2024. Institute director Jean-Philippe Heurtin, who had expressed "strong hostility" to the original suspension motion, publicly backed the restoration, saying it "reaffirms the confidence that an academic institution like ours places in Reichman University." The French Union of Jewish Students (UEJF) publicly called the June suspension discriminatory and said it was exploring legal options to reverse it. Five faculty council members resigned after the December reversal vote.

Our opinion: We don't stand with a university board that voted to sever academic ties with an Israeli institution over the Gaza war while saying nothing about October 7 or the hostages — even though, credit due, the same board reversed itself six months later.
