• 2024: On or about April 7-8, 2024, British-Australian Jewish actress Miriam Margolyes said in a video message released by the Jewish Council of Australia that "Hitler has won," describing Israel as having become "this vicious, genocidal, nationalist nation, pursuing and killing women and children." To me, it seems as if Hitler has won... He's changed us Jews from being compassionate and caring... into this vicious, genocidal, nationalist nation, pursuing and killing women and children. Context and response

In the same remarks she stated, "Of course, I condemn the Hamas action, of course I do," and called for a ceasefire "in the name of humanity," urging Jewish communities to "shout, beg, scream for a ceasefire." She also said having a different opinion on the war "is not antisemitic."

Where Galil stands

Our opinion: We don't stand behind rhetoric that likens Israel's conduct to Hitler and brands the country itself "genocidal" — a caveat condemning Hamas doesn't undo that framing.
