• October 13, 2025: On October 13, 2025, journalist and Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan posted (and later deleted, after backlash) a statement claiming the "Gaza genocide" is worse than the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide because, unlike Nazi and Hutu perpetrators, those responsible in Israel have not been "shunned, deradicalized, or prosecuted." One of the ways in which the Gaza genocide is worse than a lot of previous genocides – Rwanda, even the Holocaust – is that you didn't have Hutus or Nazis mocking the genocide after it was over. Context and response

Hasan deleted the post after significant backlash (including from Piers Morgan) and posted a follow-up clarifying he'd made the point "clumsily," explaining he meant that Holocaust deniers face condemnation in the West while Gaza-genocide deniers remain in prominent positions; he added "There was no offense meant to the Jewish community, and I abhor and condemn all genocides." He did not, however, retract the core Gaza-worse-than-Holocaust comparison and characterized critics' reaction as "bad-faith."

Where Galil stands

Our opinion: We don't serve those who casually rank Israel's wartime conduct as worse than the Holocaust while leaving out October 7 and the hostages entirely — that's not solidarity, it's erasure.
