• December 12, 2016: On December 12, 2016, Lupe Fiasco released the freestyle "N.E.R.D." on SoundCloud rapping that artists are "robbed for their publishing / By dirty Jewish execs who think that it's alms from the covenant," and after ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt publicly condemned the line as perpetuating the "hateful anti-Semitic stereotype of the 'greedy Jew,'" Fiasco defended the lyric on Twitter rather than retracting it and announced he was quitting music. Context and response

Fiasco maintained he was not being antisemitic, saying he called the executives "dirty" because they were "horrible fucking human beings," not because of their religion; he cited his visits to Auschwitz and relationships with Jewish and Israeli friends as evidence against antisemitic intent. He did not apologize for or retract the lyric, and instead announced (then later reversed) a retirement from music.

Where Galil stands

Our opinion: We don't serve artists who reach for the "greedy Jew" stereotype in their lyrics and then defend the line publicly instead of taking it back.
