NBA star Kyrie Irving was suspended after promoting a film containing Holocaust denial and antisemitic claims.

• Oct. 27, 2022 — Posted a link to the film “Hebrews to Negroes” (which contains Holocaust denial and antisemitic claims) and, asked whether he held antisemitic beliefs, said “I cannot be antisemitic if I know where I come from”; the Nets suspended him. [PBS] [Rolling Stone]

The context

Irving apologized and completed remediation, including a pledged $500K donation to anti-hate causes, antisemitism training, and meetings with the ADL and Jewish leaders. We include that in full.

Where Galil stands

Our opinion: He promoted Holocaust denial to millions and, at first, wouldn’t simply say it was wrong. He later did the work; we keep the record.
