Former Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) publicly cast doubt on the documented Oct. 7 sexual violence against Israelis.
On the record
- Nov. 17, 2023 — At a rally said of the Oct. 7 sexual-violence reports, “there’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or raped women, but they still keep using that lie,” calling it “propaganda.” [Washington Examiner] [Fox News]
The context
On March 26, 2024, after a UN report, Bowman said the UN had confirmed rape and sexual violence, condemned it, and noted his vote for H.Res. 966. On June 17, 2024, he separately told WNYC, “I apologize for my comments,” and described them as a mistake. [WNYC] [The Washington Post]
Where Galil stands
Our opinion: Denying the rape of Israeli women to a cheering crowd is a low worth remembering, even with the later apology. We don’t stand with him.
