May 1, 2024: On May 1, 2024, at a May Day rally in Bogotá, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced Colombia would sever diplomatic relations with Israel, calling Netanyahu's government "genocidal"; the break took effect May 2, 2024.
Here in front of you, the government of change, of the president of the republic, announces that tomorrow we will break diplomatic relations with the state of Israel … for having a government, for having a president who is genocidal.

Where Galil stands
Our opinion: We don't stand with a head of state who severed diplomatic ties with Israel while branding its government "genocidal" and offering no word for the hostages or the October 7 attack that preceded the war.
